Lando Norris (McLaren/4th) demands: “Solutions now – not later”

McLaren driver and 2025 World Champion Lando Norris raced in front of his own grandstand, the bright yellow ‘Lando Stand’, for the first time this year at Silverstone. It was a huge Lando party at the track – but on the track itself, the Briton struggled at his home race. Still, with third place in the Sprint and fourth in the Grand Prix, the results were better than his actual performance.

Norris calls result ‘remarkable’

Norris after the race: “Considering how tricky it was out there, fourth and third this weekend are pretty remarkable. We were lucky. Racing is also about getting to the finish line. It’s about not taking risks and not making mistakes.” His team-mate Oscar Piastri finished outside the points following a collision at the start of the race. Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) retired, whilst championship leader Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) suffered technical problems and fell back. As a result, Norris finished higher up the order than his actual performance warranted. Nevertheless, there is still a lot of work to be done.

Plenty to improve

Norris: “A fantastic start in the Sprint, a poor start in the Grand Prix. I don’t know why – so we need to analyse a few things – but the car wasn’t particularly good by any means, so we still have a lot to improve on. We hardly deserved to finish fourth today, but we’ll gladly take it.”

In the end, he didn’t have a chance of a podium finish because the race finished behind the safety car. Norris: “It would have been nice to at least have the chance at the end to race under green flags and fight for a podium place without the safety car.” But a software glitch extended the safety car period by one lap.

Norris: “The positives are the results, and ultimately that’s really the only thing that counts. But the pace really wasn’t good. We need to take a big step forward. Things just aren’t going the way they should. The simple fact is that the car doesn’t have enough grip or downforce and is just a big step behind the others. We’re simply lacking rear-end grip, and as soon as you don’t have rear-end grip, you lose confidence and make more mistakes. But I remain confident that the team can turn things around.”
