Live ticker Barcelona GP: Will Mercedes star George Russell strike back?

The Formula 1 stars head straight into the seventh race weekend of the season. At the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Mercedes rookie George Russell has created the best starting position for himself by taking pole position. He has the chance to finish on the top step of the podium for the first time since the season opener at Albert Park in Melbourne.

At the other end of the field is Fernando Alonso, who was the slowest in final practice. The local hero was fitted with a new drive unit in his Aston Martin after the time trial. He will therefore have to tackle his home race from the pit lane.

For the local fans, the big question is: How far will the two-time champion make it to the front? And the fans of championship leader Kimi Antonelli, who had to make do with the third fastest lap, will be focussing entirely on the 19-year-old Mercedes driver's attempt to get to the front.
