Live ticker Silverstone: Will Lewis Hamilton give his fans a sprint victory?

Lewis Hamilton secured pole position at the Silverstone Circuit by a razor-thin margin of eleven thousandths of a second. The Ferrari driver, who has claimed more Grand Prix victories at the historic British circuit than any other Formula 1 driver, will share the front row with his Mercedes successor, Kimi Antonelli. The 19-year-old championship leader will do everything in his power to clinch victory and the eight championship points that come with it.

Danger also lurks from behind: Max Verstappen in the Red Bull Racing car and Charles Leclerc in the second Ferrari are lying in wait on the second row for their chance, whilst behind them are Antonelli’s team-mate George Russell and Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris in the McLaren.

The latter had been on the track with less downforce than his team-mate Oscar Piastri during the sprint qualifying session following a wild ride over the kerbs, and it was only at the very end that he regained his usual starting position – going on to set a faster time than his Australian team-mate, who takes seventh on the grid and will start alongside Isack Hadjar in the second Red Bull Racing car. The strong Racing Bulls duo of Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad round off the top 10.
