Formula 1 in Austria: ServusTV and ORF TV partnership remains the foundation

Formula 1 was on the streets of Baku in Azerbaijan last weekend. The race was broadcast live in Austria on ServusTV. The private broadcaster, part of Red Bull Media House, will continue to show the premier class of motor racing for the Austrian market in the coming years.

The partnership with the state broadcaster ORF also remains in place. Together, the Salzburg-based private channel and ORF will continue to broadcast the races and various practice sessions on ORF 1. The new partnership has now been extended until 2029. This particular arrangement has proved successful for both broadcasters in recent years and has delivered strong TV viewing figures for both sides.

Furthermore, the partnership is also financially viable for both broadcasters. ServusTV had already extended the contract in June, and the extension of the agreement with the ORF has now also been announced.

What is new, however, is the distribution of events between ServusTV and ORF: the public service channel will broadcast eleven Grands Prix in future. Next year, this will once again include the Austrian Grand Prix, which is set to take place on 11 July 2027 at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.

Thirteen races will be shown on ServusTV in 2027, where the MotoGP World Championship is also part of the schedule in Austria. The home race in Styria will also be broadcast on ORF a second time during the contract period, which runs until 2029. As a reminder, in 2026 the Austrian Grand Prix was shown exclusively on ServusTV.

ServusTV has been the main rights holder for Formula 1 in Austria since the 2021 season and has shared these rights with ORF as a sub-partner ever since.

In Germany, the pay-TV broadcaster Sky is the main TV rights holder. The Cologne-based commercial broadcaster RTL shows individual races on free-to-air television. Since the merger of Sky and RTL, there has been a partnership under one roof here.
