ServusTV expert Christian Klien: This is Lewis Hamilton’s recipe for success

Lewis Hamilton had had to wait a long time for this success: The former serial winner crossed the finish line first in the latest Formula 1 showdown at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, securing his first Grand Prix victory in a Ferrari, 686 days after his 105th Grand Prix victory, he celebrated his next triumph on a race Sunday.

Let’s recall: Last year, he had already sent the Maranello team and their passionate fans into a frenzy of celebration when he secured his first victory in red in Shanghai; however, he did so in the Sprint race – in the Grand Prix that took place the following day, he was disqualified due to excessive wear on his underbody.

With his first Grand Prix victory in red, he has now joined the illustrious group of Ferrari drivers who have secured a Grand Prix triumph for the world’s oldest Grand Prix team. Former Grand Prix driver and current ServusTV pundit Christian Klien is certain: “For Lewis, winning in red is a dream come true.” And he praises: “Both he and the team have done a brilliant job and delivered an outstanding race.”

The competition must also be wary of Ferrari

Two factors were particularly important in this success: “It strikes me that he’s much happier with his new race engineer and that this generation of cars also suits him better. The driver now has more freedom to express his driving style. And whilst his pace is on a par with Charles Leclerc’s, his ideas and preferences carry more weight within the team.”

However, Hamilton mustn’t write off his team-mate from Monaco, warns the 49-time Grand Prix starter. He’s certain: “Leclerc will bounce back; I’m not worried about that. He can match Hamilton’s pace too.” And the competition must also be wary of the two Ferrari stars, as the 43-year-old from Hohenems explains. That’s because Ferrari is stepping up its engine game. “An upgrade expected to deliver around 15 PS has been announced for Spielberg. This will make them serious rivals to Mercedes.”
