Many German MotoGP fans are heartbroken: no more ServusTV from 2027

ServusTV held the live TV rights for MotoGP in Germany from 2019 to 2023; since 2024, it has continued to broadcast half of the races. In Austria, ServusTV has been broadcasting live, free of charge and in HD since 2016. Whilst the private broadcaster from Red Bull Media House was able to extend the contract for the exclusive free-to-air rights for ServusTV (linear) and ServusTV On (streaming) for its home market of Austria until 2030, fans in Germany will no longer be able to enjoy the extensive, high-quality coverage from 2027 onwards.

On 30 July 2026, the MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group (formerly Dorna) announced that, from 2027 up to and including 2030, selected races would be shown on free-to-air TV in Germany on RTL, whilst all MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 will be broadcast live on Sky, the group’s pay-TV channel.

This year, DF1 is broadcasting half of the races in Germany on free-to-air TV, using the signal from ServusTV. These races are also shown on ServusTV On and Red Bull TV. All of this will come to an end from 2027, much to the regret of numerous fans.

Fans vent their frustration

A user called Münchner Stadtschreiber commented on the SPEEDWEEK.com Facebook page: “ServusTV … everything else is jungle TV”

“Don’t need it,” wrote Reinhard Asimus about RTL, using the original wording. “Nothing but adverts. Servus TV is worlds better.”

MotoGP wants to reach the mainstream audience

In Germany, RTL has a market share of almost 10 per cent in the key 19–49 age group, whilst DF1’s share is below 0.5 per cent.

MotoGP, which has been majority-owned by the US group Liberty Media since July 2025, wants to achieve greater reach, as sporting director Carlos Ezpeleta explained in detail on SPEEDWEEK.com. A deal with Germany’s largest private broadcaster not only makes it easier to reach the mainstream audience but also brings in more revenue.

MotoGP was previously broadcast on RTL in 2006, but back then, despite extensive coverage involving up to 40 staff on site, the ratings failed to set the world alight. The market share was, however, between 5 and 7 per cent, and Liberty is basing its future calculations on figures of this magnitude.

The only alternative to RTL/Sky

When ServusTV ceased its linear broadcasting operations in Germany on 31 December 2023, RTL was already lined up as a partner; however, the opportunity then arose for ServusTV to collaborate with DF1. German fans were grateful to continue receiving the expert analysis and commentary from former GP riders Alex Hofmann, Stefan Bradl, Sandro Cortese and Gustl Auinger, delivered free of charge.

From 2027, viewers in Germany will have the official stream on MotoGP.com with the global feed as an alternative to RTL and Sky, although this will only feature English commentary.
