Misano, Superpole: Yamaha and ZX Moto on row 1 - Öttl best Ducati rider

Like the free practice session in the morning, the Superpole of the 2026 Supersport World Championship also took place at the Misano World Circuit in beautiful summer weather. As the middle category only has one free practice session, the riders used most of the 40-minute qualifying session to set up their bikes.

In the morning, Ducati rider Simon Jespersen (EAB Racing) surprisingly set the fastest time of 1:37.202 minutes. His brand colleague Philipp Öttl (Feel Racing) was second fastest, 0.148 seconds behind. The top 18 were within just one second of each other!

After seven minutes, Öttl set the fastest lap of the weekend so far in 1:37.154 min. For comparison: The pole record since 2023 is held by Nicolò Bulega on Ducati in 1:36.495 min.

The top 5 after ten minutes: Öttl, Alessandro Zaccone (Ducati), Can Öncü (Yamaha), Tom Booth-Amos (Triumph) and Matteo Ferrari (Ducati). Domi Aegerter followed 0.8 seconds behind in 15th place, Andreas Kofler (Yamaha) was 27th.

Strange: World championship leader Albert Arenas (Yamaha) was only twelfth.

At the halfway point, Arenas rocketed to first place in 1:36.791 min. behind Öttl in third position. Five-time season winner Valentin Debise (ZX Moto) was lurking in 9th place.

As the teams and riders prepared for the final run with ten minutes to go, Öncü was still in the lead. Ferrari followed in second place and Öttl in third. Aegerter had dropped back to 19th. Of the top riders, world championship runner-up Jaume Masia (Ducati) in twelfth position was under particular pressure.

Öncü's lap time at the halfway point was a real challenge for the Supersport aces, despite sector best times. When the session had to be cancelled with 2:44 minutes left after Héctor Garzó crashed, the Superpole seemed to be decided - but a restart took place and every rider had one last lap.

But it stayed that way: After Portimão and Most, Öncü (Yamaha) won Superpole for the third time this year. Arenas (Yamaha) and Debise (ZX Moto) completed the front row.

Philipp Öttl will start the first race on Saturday afternoon as the best Ducati rider from the second row in 4th place. For Triumph, Booth-Amos secured the best grid position in seventh. Jaume Masià (Ducati) saved 10th place.

Dominique Aegerter shows just how competitive the Supersport World Championship is these days: the Swiss rider qualified just 0.678 seconds behind in 18th place, while Andreas Kofler was 28th.
