Max Verstappen to Ferrari? Bernie Ecclestone: “He should have done it in 2025”

The situation remains unchanged: Max Verstappen has a contract with Red Bull Racing until the end of 2028. Nevertheless, speculation is rife as to whether the 28-year-old Dutchman might end up moving elsewhere after all. But where exactly?

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has clearly reaffirmed his commitment to his drivers, Kimi Antonelli and George Russell, during the Austrian Grand Prix weekend. McLaren CEO Zak Brown recently made it clear that they remain committed to Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

That leaves only Ferrari as a top team. And that is exactly where Verstappen should have moved to – according to ‘Mr Formula One’ Bernie Ecclestone.

The Briton, now 95 years old, attended the World Championship race in Styria and had this to say about Max Verstappen’s future: “If I owned a team today, my first task would be to bring Max on board at any cost. Because that’s cheaper than trying to improve my car.”

When journalists pressed him on what advice he would give the Dutchman, Ecclestone added: “If he stays, it’s really difficult; if he leaves – where will he go? For my part, I would have advised him last year to go to Ferrari.”
