When it comes to Supersport rider Marcel Brenner’s affairs, Dad Bruno’s emails always keep us up to date. After Brenner junior’s serious crash at the Euro Moto weekend in Most, things had gone quiet for the two Swiss. Given the numerous injuries Marcel Brenner had sustained, all his energy had to be channelled into his recovery. In his crash, Marcel Brenner suffered a fractured vertebra, a bruised lung and severe bruising all over his body. Although he no longer needs painkillers, he is still struggling with whiplash.
At the finale at the Hockenheimring, Marcel Brenner once again visited his team, AF Automarket from Poland, following the crash. He once again supported his team-mate Daniel Blin and, for the first time, took his place behind the microphone as a commentator on the Euro Moto live stream. “Marcel’s serious crash has turned our lives upside down a bit,” said Brenner senior, describing the past few months, “there were many important tasks to deal with and for a long time a lot was unclear. Things are now returning to normal and we can start planning for the future again.”
Things are looking up again
The recovery process is progressing well. Following a further check-up at the Inselspital, the doctors gave the all-clear for Marcel Brenner to resume physical training. The Swiss rider isn’t thinking about motorcycling just yet, but, as was the case at the Nürburgring, a visit to the race was on the cards. “A special season is drawing to a close,” the Brenners agree. “Thank you to the Automarket AF Racing Team. The collaboration was fantastic. We’d be delighted if we could continue it.” We’d like to congratulate Daniel Blin and the whole team on their outstanding performance. Hats off to them. And, of course, a huge thank you to our sponsors, patrons and supporters. We couldn’t compete without you. It would be great if you could join us on our journey ahead.”
“Unfortunately, after my crash at Most, I wasn’t able to finish the season on the motorbike,” said Marcel Brenner regretfully. “Nevertheless, I was able to support my team at the Nürburgring and, most recently, at the Hockenheimring, help Daniel by offering an additional perspective on the track and gather important insights regarding the set-up. At the Hockenheimring, I also had the chance to commentate on both Supersport races alongside Lukas Gajewski for the first time – a really great new experience for me.”
Idea: IDM Superbike
“At the moment, it’s looking very much as though,” he went on to reveal, “we’ll be moving up to the Superbike class with the team. However, there are still other options, and in the coming weeks the regulations, the team’s decision and the budget will be decisive. I really like the idea of Superbike, partly because my riding style suits the 1000cc bikes well and I’ve already gained a lot of experience on these bikes during my time with the Bolliger team. After three months, I’m now able to put almost my full weight on my body again. Now it’s a case of getting back into my daily training routine step by step. I won’t rush anything and will give my body the time it needs. Many thanks to all my sponsors, my team, my family and all the fans for their support during this difficult season. Now I’m looking forward to getting back on the bike soon and looking ahead.”
