Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari): Still struggling to come to terms with the death of his dog Roscoe

Lewis Hamilton posted the following message on Instagram on 29 September 2025: “After he had been on life support for four days and had fought with all his might, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe. He never stopped fighting right until the end.”

“I am so grateful and feel honoured to have shared my life with such a beautiful soul, an angel and a true friend. Bringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I’ve ever made, and I will cherish the memories we made together forever.”

“Although I’d lost Coco, I’d never had to put a dog to sleep before, even though I know my mum and many close friends have had to do so. It is one of the most painful experiences, and I feel a deep connection with everyone who has experienced the loss of a beloved pet. Although it was so difficult, having him, loving him so deeply and being loved back by him was one of the most beautiful parts of my life.”

Lewis Hamilton adopted Roscoe in 2013, and was later joined by his dog Coco (who died in 2020). In August 2025, the Englishman adopted the Golden Retriever Halo.

Now, a year on, Hamilton writes on the anniversary of his passing: “It’s now been a year since Roscoe left us. It’s hard to be without my best friend, and not a day goes by when I don’t wish he were with me. I think of him and Coco every day, and as sad as I am that they’re no longer here, I’m so grateful for the time I spent with them and for the fact that they were part of my life. They were with me during some of the happiest moments of my life.”
