Netflix documentary on Michael Schumacher: Emotional trailer released

The Netflix documentary ‘Schumacher ’94’ tells the story of a Formula 1 season marked by highs and lows, focusing on one of the sport’s greatest: Michael Schumacher clinched his first World Championship title in 1994, and along the way he also found his great love, Corinna Schumacher, who, together with other contemporary witnesses, offers a glimpse into the early days of the Formula 1 superstar.

The trailer for the documentary was screened to the public for the first time during the race weekend at Monza, in the presence of Schumacher’s manager, Sabine Kehm, and Janek Romero, the film’s executive producer. This look back features private moments, candid interviews and an uncompromising determination that laid the foundation for the many successes and seven World Championship titles that Michael Schumacher was able to celebrate throughout his remarkable career.

“Looking back naturally stirs up emotions,” says Sabine Kehm, who has witnessed all the exceptional driver’s successes at close quarters. “But for me – and for Corinna too – the joy outweighs everything else, because ultimately it’s a story with a happy ending. As we all know, it was a dramatic season that included many low points and was emotionally difficult. You can see that too when Corinna talks about Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger; emotions come to the surface. But overall, we feel joy when looking back. Because it was the season in which he drove his way into the living rooms and hearts of the world.”

The season offers all the ingredients for a good story that also resonates with a new audience, explains Kehm. “It’s lovely to be able to tell this story, and it’s great that it clearly still moves people and remains relevant. People are still inspired by the way Michael tackled things, and they also tend to understand better just how many adversities he had to overcome in his career. At times he didn’t know how to deal with all the media attention, and you can see that in the 1994 season too.”

The trailer is available to watch online, and the full-length film *Schumacher ’94* will be available on Netflix from 2 October. It’s not just fans of the German Grand Prix legend who have something to look forward to. The story of this exceptional driver and his quest for his first title is a true heroic tale that transcends the spirit of its time and will captivate young viewers too.
