Alvaro Carpe (KTM Ajo) after finishing second at Silverstone: “I’m a bit frustrated!”

In the first eight races of the 2026 Moto3 World Championship season, Alvaro Carpe consistently achieved top results. Two second places, two thirds and three fourths made up the KTM Ajo rider’s impressive tally. This was followed by a dip in form – a sixth place at Brno, a retirement at Assen and 11th place at the Sachsenring – which saw him slip down the World Championship standings.

At Silverstone, the Spaniard was determined to return to his former form. In qualifying, he secured fifth on the grid for his KTM. From there, he got off to a perfect start in the race, moving up as far as second place. Carpe was among the top five in the opening laps and bided his time. By the middle of the race, six riders – Almansa, Uriarte, Carpe, Fernandez, Perrone and Esteban – had pulled away at the front. In the final three laps, after initially dropping back to fifth place, Carpe produced a magnificent final lap. He overtook Perrone first, then snatched second place from Fernandez. He also benefited from a crash involving his team-mate Brian Uriarte. Carpe finished second and secured his fifth podium of the season.

Carpe: “In the last two laps, I thought I might lose it all”

Commenting on the chaotic finish, Carpe said: “Especially in the last two laps, I thought I might lose it all. I saw Brian – it was mad. I could have crashed too. I tried to stay on my bike and not lose too much time,” he said, describing the eventful final laps. “I was happy because I managed to fight my way back up. But it was also a bit frustrating because Almansa managed to pull away from us in those two laps. I think I was the only one who could have kept up with him in those final laps. But with all the dicey situations and overtaking manoeuvres, it was very difficult. I’m a bit frustrated because I know I could have been standing at the very top of the podium.”

Nevertheless, Carpe was quite satisfied with his performance at the British Grand Prix. “I felt very good right from the start and knew I had to get back on the podium,” said the 19-year-old. “In the end, after lots of battles, we managed to secure this second place and some very important points for the championship. Now we need to keep working so that we arrive in Aragon in the best possible form.”

In the World Championship standings, Alvaro Carpe has returned to second place. He is currently 85 points behind championship leader Maximo Quiles, who was unable to take part in the Grand Prix due to a broken collarbone sustained in qualifying.
