Jorge Viegas (FIM) über Austin: «Geringe Chance»

Dorna-Chef Carmelo Ezpeleta hatte in einer Pressekonferenz im Rahmen des Moto2- und Moto3-WM-Auftakts in der Wüste von Doha bereits betont: "Laut Vertrag mit FIM sind 13 Rennen das Minimum, aber unser Ziel ist es, wenn möglich, die verbliebenen 19 Grand Prix zu fahren." Das wird allerdings angesichts der Ausbreitung der Coronavirus-Epidemie immer schwieriger, da immer mehr Länder ihre Einreiserestriktionen verschärfen.

In Italien, wo sich besonders viele Menschen mit dem Erreger Sars-CoV-2 infiziert haben, wurde ein Dekret in Form eines Reiseverbots erlassen, das zunächst nur für gewisse Provinzen in Italien galt, aber am Montagabend landesweit erlassen wurde. Reisen sind damit nur in Ausnahmefällen möglich, wenn etwa wichtige berufliche oder familiäre Gründe vorliegen. Alle Veranstaltungen wurden abegsagt und die Schulen bis vorläufig 3. April geschlossen.

Dies tun die Behörden aus gutem Grund: Mit 9172 bestätigten Fällen und 463 Opfern ist Italien derzeit das am zweitstärksten vom Virus betroffene Land der Welt, nur im vermuteten Ursprungsland China erkrankten noch mehr Leute an der Lungenkrankheit COVID-19. Dort gehen die Zahlen der neuen Fälle mittlerweile leicht zurück, während sie in Italien und anderen europäischen Ländern sowie in den USA steigen.

Letztere hat auch Massnahmen ergriffen, welche der Durchführung des Texas-GP in Austin im Weg stehen. Das MotoGP-Wochenende, das für den 3. bis 5. April angesetzt ist, stand deshalb auf höchst wackligen Beinen, denn die Gegend ist offiziell zum "local state of disaster" erklärt worden. Auch das populäre "Tech, Music and Film Festival SXSW" , das vom 13. bis 22. März hätte über die Bühne gehen sollen, wurde abgesagt – zum ersten Mal in der 34-jährigen Geschichte der jährlich stattfindenden Veranstaltung.

FIM-Präsident Jorge Viegas macht sich nichts vor. Im Interview mit Radio Catalunya erklärte er: "Die Chancen auf eine Austragung des Texas-GP am 5. April sind gering. Aber wir arbeiten daran, eine Alternative für die Strecke zu finden. Allerdings ändert sich die Lage stetig und schnell, deshalb kann ich derzeit nicht viel mehr sagen." Wenig später bestätigte die Dorna, die für den WM-Kalender zuständig ist: Der WM-Lauf in Austin wird auf den 15. November verschoben.

So ganz beiläufig hat Ferrari-Superstar Lewis Hamilton in Monaco erklärt, dass Red Bull derzeit den kraftvollsten Motor habe. «Dann kommt Mercedes, dann erst wir. Also dürfen wir mehr entwickeln.»

Der Portugiese bleibt denn auch zuversichtlich: "Derzeit bin ich guter Dinge, dass wir die WM über mehr als die Mindestanzahl von 13 Runden austragen können. Wenn die WM bis zum Januar ausgedehnt werden muss, dann wird das halt so sein. Es wird auch erwogen, zwei GP-Runden am gleichen Wochenende durchzuführen, oder die Rennen hinter verschlossenen Türen zu veranstalten, wenn es keine andere Alternative mehr gibt. Derzeit ist noch alles offen und man muss flexibel und kreativ reagieren."

Die Coronavirus-Ausbreitung und die entsprechenden Massnahmen, um diese zu stoppen, haben bereits für die Absage des WM-Laufs der MotoGP-Klasse in Katar und die Verschiebung des Thailand-GP-Wochenendes in den Herbst gesorgt. Dafür musste auch der Termin für Aragón angepasst werden. Nun wurde auch das Rennen in Austin auf den Herbst verschoben.
